2014 Writing a Meme (Stealing from [personal profile] sophia_helix , since I finally wrote again this year)

Statistics (published, written but still in draft form would be higher):

Fandoms: 7 (A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones, Almost Human, Arrow, Dresden Files, Star Trek RPF, Star Trek: Voyager, Veronica Mars)
Stories: 38 (includes 2 incomplete WIPs and 9 co-authored fics)
Pairings:10 (not counting background pairings)
Word count: 189,652 (but 87,540 of those were co-authored so maybe more accurately approximately 145,882)

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted So much more.  I'd barely written since 2008 and I've over doubled my total word count this year... lifetime.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? I definitely didn't see Janeway/Chakotay being my biggest OTP of all time and blotting out the sun coming.  But probably my sudden (related) RPF habit was more surprising.  Also, just the explicit smut covered smut element of this iteration of my fic writing was not something I particularly saw coming. Oh, and writing a multi-chaptered modern high school (teacher) AU.

What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? I have a special place in my heart for Like the Real Thing, as my first Janeway/Chakotay fic.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?  Co-authoring.  I mean it sort of happened by accident (we were just a little overwhelmed by a photo and ended up imessaging back and forth and the next thing we knew it was a story) but it seriously brings joy to my life and it has taught me to be fearless and unashamed and just go for things.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?  So many!

Fanfic-wise...

I want to finish Voyager High in the next month and then get started on an AU in which Jadzia Dax is on Voyager in place of Tom Paris and Janeway has a prior relationship with the Dax symbiont, like Sisko does canonically.  I have about half a dozen other Janeway/Chakotay fics planned out as well.

I have a three part Season 3 AU for Veronica Mars that I need to finish (none of it is published but I have like 9K written) in which Weevil is the one who shows up in the garage when Veronica has been drugged/is being assaulted.  Oh and at least two follow up fics to Are You Game (my Logan/Veronica/Weevil threesome fic)

I also didn't write follow up fics to: my Almost Human fic (gaybots!), this Jaime/Brienne fic, and After Life (my Cersei/Brienne fic)... all of which I meant to, and additional sections to my Felicity Smoak Attempting to Celebrate Jewish Holidays series, especially one for Passover.

I'm hoping 2015 is the year in which I finally post my Nine/Martha fic (2014 was the year I finished an actual draft so it seems plausible).

Oh and... you can expect a lot more RPF smut.

In terms of original fiction... well I'd like this to be the year that I actually write out my urban fantasy novel with the jewish heroine.

From my past year of writing, what was ...

My best story Maybe, my  Almost Human fic, which just flowed so naturally.  I really need to write at least one more chapter of it.

My most popular No Longer the Maid of Tarth.  Ironically, this is a fic I wrote and considered drawer-fic because I wasn't satisfied with it many years ago, and then this year I was like "what the hell". It makes me really sad that my heart/brain is no longer in the Jaime/Brienne space.  When I was writing it, ASOIAF was this tiny fandom obsessed with SanSan and now GoT is this juggernaut with people waiting to love me and I am like "So... about this fandom I am two decades late to..." instead.  But the id wants what it wants.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe  Probably my Felicity Smoak series.  I was really proud of it and just the recipient commented.  I think people probably were uncomfortable with the overly personal way I confronted Felicity's experience as a white passing jew.
Most fun story to write Stress Relief, in which we tossed all of our romanticization out the window and wrote Kate Mulgew and Robert Beltran as kind of awful and mean spirited, bitching, smoking, drinking, cheating, but sexy friends with benefits.

Sexiest story The And Every Pop Song on the Radio is Suddenly Speaking to Me (RPF) series is probably the hottest thing I (with some help) have ever written... and some of the as of yet unpublished sections are EVEN STEAMIER.  Honestly, you don't actually need to care about these "characters" (people?).  It is just scorching (part 1 is slightly restrained but we gave that up after that).

Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story Maybe Fuck You Too, which is genderswapped fem!Logan/fem!Weevil bathroom fighting/hatesex.  Honestly, my moral compass is so fucked up when it comes to fic... like in general I am writing less screwed up stuff than I used to. A lot of people would say the RPF, which involves a lot of infidelity... I guess?

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters Maybe After Life.  I'd never written from Cersei's POV or a story that was sympathetic to her, and I hadn't written her at all since my own perspective on her shifted.  It was a really interesting chance to examine both character's sexuality rather than interfacing with the world.  It's the second time I have written Westeros femslash and it really makes me see why in a patriarchally dominated society same sex relationships can ben revealing liberating.

Hardest story to write Voyager High.  This is the first time I have followed through on a plan to write a multi-chaptered fic, and the hardest part has actually been my decision to do a chapter from each of the characters from Voyager's perspective (and a couple extra for Janeway and Chakotay).  Characters like Seven of Nine are hard to do right, and I struggled to make the Doctor's chapter interesting.  It has also been a lot of fun, though.

Biggest disappointment I actually like Politically Incorrect a lot, but it really didn't turn out the way I intended it to.  It originally was supposed to have a much stronger push from the alien species/fake dating element and then it just ended up being more about forced proximity triggering honesty/expression.

Most unintentionally telling story  I'm not sure any of the telling stuff in my fics is unintentional. Like I said, my Felicity stuff was intentionally exploring my own experience.   And I definitely was stealing a certain bedroom vibe in Home intentionally. Maybe just the fact that I am almost incapable of not writing happy endings anymore.
