It is seriously the first show I've ever been excited about BEFORE it started.
It is a premise I wouldn't be into if it wasn't being done by Joss and Eliza but I think will work really well for them. It's a fucking brilliant idea for both getting Eliza out of the bad girl box and at the same time capitalizing on how hot and good at being badass she is. It will allow Joss to work with some of his favorite motifs (like gender issue, well meaning but evil big brother type organizations, emerging identity, etc.) and allow for some episodes to be really light and some to be really dark without seeming inconsistent.
I've still never really watched either of the shows you are referring to, but everyone seems to feel that it is similar to them. My first thought, of course was the Matrix, but more so Neuromancer, which is the founding novel of the cyberpunk genre and the Matrix borrowed heavily from. The main female character in it is sort of this badass assassin/bodyguard/whatever, but she got the money for all the surgery to upgrade her body so she could do this by being in a "meat house" which is totally what Dollhouse sounds like, they load you with whatever program, you service the customer, and then you wake up and don't remember it, and the same thing happened to her where she started remembering.
