So my delayed post about Veronica Mars as of the finale:
Going into the episode I totally didn't think it was going to be Aaron but when they actually did it, it worked for me.
As far as the "but he wasn't in the pilot" complaint: I think the clue in the pilot is that Lilly was killed by having her head bashed in. It was a violent murder and thus when we later see Aaron is a violent man the connection could be made. Also maybe you could see Veronica's comment about Logan being a "psychotic jackass" as a "like father like son".
Aaron and Lilly having sex was totally believable to me. We know that Aaron fucks anything with legs. We also know that Lilly is selfish and insensitive, we know she wants to piss off her parents and do the taboo, that she had fucked around on Logan before, that she was mad at him at the time, and Logan tells us that while he loved he Lilly just loved guys. I think anyone who is like "Lilly wouldn't do that" has been watching a different show than me.
Okay wow... that said where to start. I guess anywhere will do. I absolutely love the scene in which Keith tells Veronica that she's his daughter. I love the way Veronica signs the paper so easily and I love the fake out.
I always knew she was but it's important that she has evidence of that so that Duncan can know too. Because of course the love triangle of Duncan/Veronica/Logan will have to play itself out in the next season. I feel like in the end the issues that Logan and Duncan will have to work out will be more interesting than who Veronica chooses to be with romantically. Because Duncan has got to be pretty pissed about the whole Logan/Veronica thing and now Aaron has killed Lilly.
Logan's issues of course will be exponentially multiplied with his father having killed Lilly, but I think more importantly his father having fucked his girlfriend and his girlfriend having fucked his father. And of course now he has no parents, which provides logistical challenges as well as psychological ones.
I'm not really worried about the whole scene with the Logan and Weevil situation. If anything, I think Weevil is going to help get Logan off that railing and onto the ground. The letter he supposedly wrote could have been in the spy pen (which is what I thought during the episode) but in that case I wonder why Weevil risked himself to get the pen. I'm sure that will be addressed next season. Logan and Weevil are never going to "get along" but I think that they are in some way closer than anyone else in the show.
As far as "evidence" goes I think that the third tape that Lilly took from the Echolls pool house is not of her and Aaron but something completely separate , which will cause intrigue next season. Perhaps that's the one he really wanted to get back initially, and killed Lilly for. Who knows.
Well I think the other thing that I strongly want to think about for next season has to do with both Lianne and Lilly.
I'll start with some conversation with Lianne. Lianne seems to actually be not so different from Celeste's description of her when she is telling Veronica that she doesn't hate her but can't stand to see her. She's immature and irresponsible. Even back before Lilly's murder she seems like she is playing with Veronica rather than mothering her. She's not a good role model... no matter how much Veronica would like her to be. Veronica's desire to have a perfect vision of her mother is what motivates her to ask about her and find out she was popular and dated Jake Kane. This image is the one of the life that Veronica is nostalgic for all through season 1, the life where she and Duncan were all everyone ever talked about, the perfect couple. I suspect this image was given to her by her mom in the first place, who was probably reliving the glory days vicariously through Veronica. Throughout the season we never actually see any memories of Lianne that are positive. Veronica has a nostalgia that implies positive memories but that is not the viewers experience.
This seems to me very similar to what happens with Lilly in the show. Everyone seems to have loved her and thought she was great but every flashback shows her to be obnoxious, insensitive, selfish, shallow etc. The way she treats Veronica never seems like she's really a very good friend and I want to slap her every time she comes on the screen. Veronica never seems aware of this though.
Thus I see both Lilly and Lianne as playing a very similar role. Veronica looks up to them so much and strives to be like them but they are false idols and it seems like the paint should finally be peeling off them for Veronica like it always has been for us.
Veronica has discovered that her mom wasted the money she spent on rehab and now she's stolen $50,000 dollars. She has to start dealing with the fact that her mom is not a good person. Similarly, although she does not yet show a consciousness of it, Veronica now knows that Lilly was screwing Aaron behind Logan's back and that information really should make her question her perception of Lilly, and maybe see the truth of the significance of all the actions that she's been misinterpreting all this time. Veronica, you are going to have to deal with the truth sometime.
I also think we are going to find out more dirt on Lianne... I mean come on, we still don't know why she was at the Camelot with Jake Kane at the beginning of the season. My theory is that she was probably blackmailing him in some way but it could be anything.
Okay I think there is probably more I wanted to say but my head hurts.
