1)I do NOT have enough Buffy/Angel-verse icons. If anyone wanted to point me in the direction of some nice ones I would be much obliged. I'm particularly looking for ones of: Lindsey, Wesley, Gunn, Drusilla, Tara, flashback Darla, and/or Anya/Spike and I'm always open to upgrading my Anya, Faith, and Kate icons to new exciting ones.

2)Last night I was watching Serenity over at [livejournal.com profile] sophia_helix and [livejournal.com profile] actoplasm's and someone happened to mention that Wash was like a combination of Xander and Oz. That lead to much discussion of what other Jossverse characters the crew of Serenity were a combination of. River, is of course the easiest. She's so clearly a combination of Fred and Drusilla. Kaylee I suggested as a combination of oldschool Willow and Anya, but it was suggested that perhaps there was more Fred than Willow to her because she's more confident. Simon has a lot of Buffy Season 3 Wesley, but he also has some mid-Angel Wesley to him. I could also possibly see some Lindsey in there. Jayne and Zoe are both extremely problamatic. Mal also, though there is definitely some Angel involved. Anyways... the real point I am getting at is: Who would you say the Firefly characters are alloys of in regards to Joss' other creations.

3)The amazing thing about sleeping enough, is that the alarm doesn't actually feel like the ned of the world and doom and destruction when it goes off.

4) Would anyone be willing to beta a now-AU Grey's Anatomy fic? Alex and Izzie, angst, alternate ending of the Denny situation. I wrote it long before the finale but it never got betaed and I'd still like to post it.

5) I am totally putting off writing my ficathon fics and/or doing actual work.

Well, Jayne is clearly Cordelia combined with Spike.

Zoe I think is a bit more serious Oz with kickass fighting skills and splitting her total devotion to the Captain and to her love. "As Willow goes, so goes my nation." could certainly represent how she behaves towards Mal.

Book is pretty much later Giles with a few tweaks.

1) [livejournal.com profile] _ladydisdain makes a lot of nice ones.

2) I think part of why Firefly is so awesome is because these characters are based on the same archetypes as before, but they're just...better. They're, like, the the platonic ideals of their respective archetypes. Wash is based on largely the same archetype as Xander, but Xander is useless and a right bastard whereas Wash rules the universe. Kaylee has a lot of Willow in her, but is neither so prone to Sueism nor as much of a codependent, shitty friend. River is better-written than Fred. Mal, who is clearly part Angel, is also much less emo and much more proactive, and just happens to be my favourite Jossverse character of all time. Jayne is Cordelia/Anya but as a man and a mercenary, which is a totally different story. And then really excitingly for those of us who have been burned by Joss's attempts at feminism in the past, Zoe and Inara are both really hard to pin on past characters. nara has a little Buffy maybe and some good!Lilah, but she's different. Given how mysterious and not-very-developed Inara's position is already, that doesn't really help people understand her, but to me it's a breath of fresh air and tells me I have new problems to worry about instead of the same old ones. And in general, this show is very clearly the product of years of learning about how to tell a story, about what makes a great character. It's what makes Firefly so bittersweet. Just as in some respects Angel blows Buffy out of the water, Firefly could have pwned them both.

Platonic ideals, seriously.

Well, Joss's archetypes are the same all over. And Willow, Fred, Kaylee, and River stem horribly from his hard-on for Kitty Pryde of the X-Men. That's probably why they all grate on me to certain degrees.

I realise, I have no Jossverse icons. Hrm.

The problem is that both Cordelia and Spike are way more idealistic and intelligent than Jayne.

Hmmm... Zoe as Oz is interesting.

Book as Giles is a wonderful notion.

So much love. So much angst.

I was thinking more on early Cordy, who was more intelligent than Jayne, certainly (although she seemed to get smarter as the show went on than she started), but was a selfish bitca, but one who tells it like it is. Add in Spike's monster on the road to redemption and I think you've got Jayne personalitywise. Maybe mix in some Xander, and what he lacks in smarts will be made up for in lack of smarts. Well, okay, Xander's no dummy either but he's probably the closest thing to it in any of the Buffyverse's main cast.

I always said that I saw some S5 Tara tendancies in River (ya know the way Tara was after Glory sucked her mind and made her a little lot crazy) and that Inara reminded me of Cordelia in a lot of ways. It's just different facets of Cordelia throughout the her time in Jossverse period.

lol... so he's Xander and Cordelia's love child who was raised by Spike... ala Connor with Holtz?

That would make one scary fanfic.

I really need a Lindsey Icon

Lol. I think with Lindsey the selfish is the important part. Evil vs. non evil is only relevant when he's having one of his little fits of conscience/obsession with Angel.

The way he risks his career for Darla is a little Simon/River you must confess.

Joss definitely writes her insanity similarly

Inara reminded me of Cordelia in a lot of ways

Cordelia is too many people for the assiciation to mean much... I mean anyone could reflect some period of Cordelia couldn't they.

I'm not necessarily sure that I agree with that observation at all, in fact, I really don't all that much. I've always seen a lot of Cordelia's man facets and personality traits in Inara from the moment I first started watching the show. It's one of the reasons that I loved Inara as much as I did and I know a lot of other people who feel the same way about it as I do. *shrugs* I don't think that there's too much for the association. I think it fits pretty well.

As far as Joss writing her insanity similarly - he really did.

That was more of a comment on Cordelia's character going all over the place than her not resembling Inara (I just jumped back watching Buffy Season 1 in thr middle of my Angel season 4 viewing)

Thing is though, I'm not so sure that I'm convinced that a lot of people could resemble a little bit of Cordelia in them. She might have many different characteristics and personality traits about her - but I don't think anyone could be associated with her.

Wow we have skills at that.

I blame whoever game me my Jossverse rarepairs ficathon assignment for any similarities I see between Lindsey and the characters in Firefly... particularly Simon.

We don't necessarily have to always disagree, I guess I just feel like there's some sort of pleasure derived from it or something. I don't know...it just irks me sometimes.

Only thing I was saying is that not just anyone can be associated with Cordelia.

And I guess the only thing I was trying to say is that in order to make an understandable connection between Cordelia and another character I feel that you need to be more specific, because Cordelia changes a lot over the course of Angel and Buffy.

I think you could see Inara as sharing a sureness about herself with Cordelia.

And I guess the only thing that I'm saying is that you don't necessarily need to be more specific in order to make the connection between Cordelia and another character understandable at all. Or well, that's just my humble opinion. I realize that Cordelia changes a lot of the course of both Buffy and Angel - but through all of that she was still simply Cordelia with several personality traits in tact.

There are other things besides sharing a sureness about herself, that I see Inara sharing with Cordelia as well.

What I was asking was: what do you see those things as being?
