Martha wonders what time her call will find the Doctor in. Will it ring according to linear timelines or will the time that’s passed since they parted be calculated from his perspective? Will he answer in Ancient Rome or in the future on some distant star? Will he pick up at all? Perhaps he will have misplaced it; maybe he will be too busy with new adventures and companions to bother answering her call. The phone rings once, twice, three times. Then she hears the familiar sound of the TARDIS’ approach. She’s in his arms the moment the door opens.
