This Weekend's Reading:

Lady Friday by Garth Nix (Book 5 of the Keys to the Kingdom Series)
Darkangel by Meredith Ann Pierce (Book 1 of the Darkangel Trilogy)

Apparently I can only read fantasy books these days and even then only if they are aimed at children or teenagers.

What did you think of Darkangel? I keep coming across these books when browsing for Tamora Pierce onces but something about them just turns me off. Of course, that was the case with a number of series I then came to love, which is why I'm asking :)

I feel like that a lot...

I don't think it was the best book I ever read but I actually enjoyed it a lot. I am definitely having Jeremy bring home the next two and probably reading them all this week. They aren't at all what the covers gave me the impression of(which is kind of dark and trying to be sexy). I felt they actually had a very strong fairytale feeling to them, which I liked a lot. The world building is mostly implied but good and the heroine is likeable. There's a lot of lazy storytelling (the kind of thing where months go by in two pages) but it makes it a quicker read and emphasizes the parts where the author does take time to fill it out.

That's reassuring! -- I might check them out when I run low on reading material again. I do like the fairy-tale-feel fantasy stories, when done decently.

Yeah. They definitely fill that niche for me.

sometimes, I find I have to take a science fiction break from the literature and suchness that I read. :)

I often find that when I start reading after not doing so for a while for whatever reason (generally life being way busy) it is easier to start with something rooted in plot and emotionally satisfying and exciting like genre fiction as opposed to something else. It's like a stepping stone back to the heavy stuff.
