The topic would be how the book follows the actualization of Richard's masculinity, which is latent in the everyday world where he allows himself to be walked over by his job and his fiance (because there is no room for manhood in the urban world of today). A single act of defiance, chivalry superseding his emasculation, brings him into a transitional state. He is forced to come into his own because there is room for it (unlike in his previous existence). Initially he tries to hide in his previous identity but the void of power pressing in on him forces him to make the choice and come into his own or perish. Coming into his manhood allows him to return to the surface world, but now that he has become MAN he no longer has any use for the restraints that made him feel safe before.

The Lais of Marie de France for the book meme.

Hmm, your handwriting is lower-zone dominated, on the loopy letters. I remember lower zone in general is connected to the id, supposedly, but I forget what the big loops are meant to signify... You do the print-writing thing, and that signifies intelligence and efficiency.

I am going to have to go home and look at a few things, but I think that I would definitely write about the assumptions about what marriage means or should mean in the text. I want to do a little re-reading before I suggest what those assumptions are as far as I am concerned. So expect a more specific thesis statement to follow.

My impatience plays a large part in my terrible handwriting... so that makes sense with the id thing. That's a nice interpretation of the printing though, much nicer than "it comes out slightly more legibly".

Oh hey, now that I have the camera I could do this meme ^__^

The Keys To The Kingdom series? (Dangit, I still haven't gotten to read Friday, and possibly not even Thursday)

My first thought it is talk about the way the 7 Deadly Sins are manifest in each of the Trustees (Monday - Sloth, Tuesday - Avarice, Wednesday - Gluttony, Thursday - Wrath, Friday - Lust, Saturday - Envy, Sunday -Pride... obviously the later ones are guesses). Part of what's interesting about this is that it's a very pragmatic display or what's wrong with these qualities, as opposed to a moral one. Monday's Sloth has the whole Lower Kingdom drowned in Paperwork, Tuesday's Greed destroys the integrity of the House and lets Nithlings in...

Also, Friday's lust is interesting because it is not carnal but mental/emotional lust.

Neat. This is a really neat meme, I was never very good of thinking of things like that.

Thanks. I usually have been, and I am trying to get back into that mindset.
