So sometimes I like to look up the origins of names and today, while trying not to cry while writing Weevilfic, I was thinking about the use of the name Weevil versus his real name Eli and such. Then I thought to myself: Eli is a biblical name... I wonder what his story is?
And of course it is ridiculously apt:
Eli is a high priest who helped guide Samuel (the last Judge). His sons were wicked, greedy, and sinful and he could not control them. Therefore God cursed his house forever, saying none of the men in it would live to be old.

Well Weevil as the head of the PCH gang is in some sense the father. It is up to him to keep them in line... and of course he fails at it. His "sons" are very very bad and when he tries to discipline them they turn on him and disrespect him, just like the biblical Eli. The particular curse that God gives is so apt too. Gang members are much less likely to live to an old age than the average person after all. Mainly I am just struck by Eli and his wicked, disobedient, sons though.
