Oh week of whatever

1. Monday night, sophia_helix flaked out on watching Bones with me. It was okay though because she was writing her asoiaf_equinox fic:


* I'm sorry to be insensitive but this episode had NOTHING to do with school shootings and it was ridiculous to hold it for a whole season because of the Virginia Tech Shooting. It wasn't even about maladjusted college students. It's about popular players, and college basketball, and the way that attention goes to one's head. It's the opposite of related.
* If they were going to hold it, they should have at least left it on the season 2 DVDs, regardless of when it ended up airing.
* Despite having cut all the interactions between Hodgins and Angela because their plot line was about him proposing and her saying no and now they are married, there was still a huge inconsistency because Cam references that they are basically living together and Angela tries to deny it, saying they have their own places... which is not true any more.
* I liked the episode, especially Bones and Booth's argument about the place of sports in higher education, but placing it in the wrong time frame really ruins the show's continuity.


2. Tuesday night, we watched episodes 4x02 and 4x03 of Doctor Who at last. Non-spoilerly reactions (comments to this post may contain spoilers though):
* Ten's emo seems expand with the growth of his hair.
* Donna is a great choice of character to follow up Martha and Rose. I love that she is an independent adult. If Rose was Heart and Martha was Head... Donna is perhaps Will.
* sophia_helix and I loved Quintus and his short little sacrilegious purple toga.
* This reminded us that Brutus and Mark Antony are totally having hatesex and we are sad that NO ONE has written about it for us.
* We want to hire that chick to do our PR. We are not sure for what, but we were impressed with her skills.
* The promo for this week, made me so excited. I am such a fucking fangirl for a certain champion of Earth.

3. Last night, after arguing with my therapist about semantics, we went out to celebrate actoplasm's promotion. He didn't get off till 8 and 9 is Jeremy's bedtime for work nights so we were just going to have drinks and appetizers with them and then go and let them finish their dinner alone... but it smelled good so I got mushroom ravioli in a ginger cream sauce and Jeremy got a giant chicken caesar salad. We also modified the "Red Carpet" (one of their specialty drinks: Pomegranate Liqueur, Vodka, Triple-Sec, Sweet and Sour, and Soda) to replace the Soda with their homemade ginger ale, which really killed the not so great vodka aftertaste (they make notoriously strong drinks). We called it the "Ginger Carpet"... which sounded dirty and reminded me of Doctor Who and my theory that he is hanging out with Donna partly because if you can't BE a ginger then you can at least be WITH one, right? It was so good I had two, and then we forgot to order dessert but sophia_helix wanted some so we went over to the Czechoslovakian place's bar, where they serve Princess Cake and make the best Mojitos in town (seriously I don't even bother getting them elsewhere in the area because they always disappoint). We did not get to bed until 11, and have plans to do Happy Hour today in honor of sophia_helix's last day of actual class in law school. Also in honor of cheap appetizers.

4. This week I have written 3 Song of Ice and Fire fics (Well, 2 1/2 fics and 1 ficlet) and I am actually pretty happy with the completed ones for the first time in months. I've even been getting betaed again for the first time in a while.

5. Saturday we leave for Southern California and will not be back until Thursday or Friday of next week. I am so excited to get away and not go to work.

Thanks. It took me a while to find the right word. I kept wanting to say Spirit, but she is spirited, not spirit as an abstract concept. She's much more solid than that.

I know what you mean. Because of that project you're probably tired of seeing in my journal now (patience, my dear, patience) I've been making similar interpretations regarding the Second Doctor's companions. In that case Jamie is Heart, Zoe is Head and Victoria is Spirit - but in Victoria's case it's more the ethereal, abstract concept, and the fact that she's the total opposite of Donna reafirms what you just said above. Donna is spirited, instead of spiritual (and she's not a sweet, delicate little flower like Victoria was).

Anyway, old school rambling. I'll shut up now.

I understand that, which is why I decided it was better to stop before I began to talk about places and situations you haven't seen and made your head spin.

It doesn't help that there's only one complete story with Victoria in existence, the others having been destroyed by the BBC, but here's a brief explanation: she's from 1867, and so she was raised to be delicate, ladylike, sweet and naïve, which you'll agree fit better with the more aethereal description of Spirit but also make her the complete opposite of Donna, who is fiery, loud and kickass.

You know, now that I think about it, Fire would be a good word to define Donna, even if it doesn't relate to a human element like Heart, Head or Spirit.

Fire is pretty good, but I feel like as far as elements go, she also has a strong Earth aspect. She's very solid in a lot of ways.

I think I associate her more with Fire because I tend to link characters with Hogwart houses, and Fire is the Gryffindor element.

Now that I think about it, it's funny. With a few exceptions (Jo=Hufflepuff and Zoe=Ravenclaw) my favourite companions fall more into the Gryffindor profile: Jamie, Rose, Sarah Jane, Donna...

Oh, I like this. I've surprised myself with how much I'm loving Donna, since I had conflicted feelings about her in "Runaway Bride." When she put her hands on top of the Doctors for the lever, knowing it'd mean the end -- my, what strength and compassion, and immense dignity as well.

Brutus and Mark Antony are totally having hatesex and we are sad that NO ONE has written about it for us.

I can't imagine someone hasn't written this *somewhere*.
