Robin Hoodie
Aug. 17th, 2008 09:11 amSo last week I watched season 1 of BBC's Robin Hood series. And I ended up really liking it once I sort of got the hang of what they were doing. Possibly this has something to do with the fact that halfway through I realized that the guy playing Robin Hood looks a ridiculous amount like Eric Frederic, singer/songwriter/guitarist for Facing New York, whom I totally beyond admire who will be sort of the center point for my damned novel about singers as symbols if I ever get it written. But on top of that, if you find entertainment in the cracked out costuming (
sophia_helix suggests it is costumed like a high school play, other running theories include a tabletop rpg player determining the costuming at random with charts and D20 dice, a blind person picking out the costumes, and a 4 year old being in charge of them) as opposed to fighting it and stop expecting it to be what it is not, you will enjoy the show. Robin is emo but it's in a nice way where he actually like has legitimate issues with the crusades and shit sometimes and also the show laughs at him a lot; there are plenty of slash options but that doesn't mean Marian gets relegated to obligatory damsel, in fact she's pretty proactive. It's sort of cracked out because one minute it's being gritty and cutting out tongues and the next it's making pop culture reference jokes. The best part is probably the Sheriff, who is an absolute sick fuck and brilliant in the role.
Now I really want to go see Facing New York and they are playing in Orangevale tonight (like seriously so close, I would not even have to get on the freeway) and they are playing with another band I like. Unfortunately everyone is supposedly coming over to play D&D tonight so I am sort of already booked. I am really tempted to flake on everyone though and possibly see if
hella_em would want to go.
Additionally, I have been embroidering all weekend because
sophia_helix made me go into Michaels and the urge hit me. I love how it makes me feel like I am in a Jane Austen novel.
sainfoin_fields may possibly be getting the most awesome present of all time... just saying.

Yay. What did you think of it all? (I have been away from LJ for a while) Mostly wondering about Silence in The Library Two parter and the last 3 eps of the season. (And the possible two new cast members for TW)

Date: 2008-08-21 11:44 pm (UTC)Yeah, Sept. 16th. (Oct 7th for SJA)
I really really liked the season. I thought the Moffat two parter was creepy and heart wrenching and I love that eventually it was not about evil at all but about a lonely little girl trying to help. I mostly liked the finale but was annoyed that they brought Rose back to do nothing interesting with her and the Human!Ten setup felt too much like fanservice and badfic. I loved the DoctorDonna a lot and the interactions between all the different companions.
I was really excited by the possibility of Martha and Mickey on Tochwood but given that Freema is doing Law and Order:UK and there was an article with Noel Clarke that made it sound like he wasn't interested I am guessing it is totally not happening at this point.
Re: The keywords for this icon are "he wishes"
Date: 2008-08-21 11:55 pm (UTC)I loved the two parter and I love that Moffat is taking over as head writer, that is going to be really interesting. And I loved the Doctor's wife, ooooh, and the Doctor's Daughter, so much fun, or at least I thought so.
THe DoctorDonna was magnificent, and I thought everyone together flying the Tardis was just beautiful, I need icons and wallpapers and headers of that scene so much ^__^
Okay Freema on L&O would be cool, but I was over the moon about Mickey joining TW, so that annoys me a bit.
Re: The keywords for this icon are "he wishes"
Date: 2008-08-22 02:44 pm (UTC)L&O: UK seems awesome. It's with Freema and Jaime Bamber for BSG (who has very nice cheekbones). It's possible that Mickey will still join, that interview just made it seem unlikely.
