Robin Hoodie
Aug. 17th, 2008 09:11 amSo last week I watched season 1 of BBC's Robin Hood series. And I ended up really liking it once I sort of got the hang of what they were doing. Possibly this has something to do with the fact that halfway through I realized that the guy playing Robin Hood looks a ridiculous amount like Eric Frederic, singer/songwriter/guitarist for Facing New York, whom I totally beyond admire who will be sort of the center point for my damned novel about singers as symbols if I ever get it written. But on top of that, if you find entertainment in the cracked out costuming (
sophia_helix suggests it is costumed like a high school play, other running theories include a tabletop rpg player determining the costuming at random with charts and D20 dice, a blind person picking out the costumes, and a 4 year old being in charge of them) as opposed to fighting it and stop expecting it to be what it is not, you will enjoy the show. Robin is emo but it's in a nice way where he actually like has legitimate issues with the crusades and shit sometimes and also the show laughs at him a lot; there are plenty of slash options but that doesn't mean Marian gets relegated to obligatory damsel, in fact she's pretty proactive. It's sort of cracked out because one minute it's being gritty and cutting out tongues and the next it's making pop culture reference jokes. The best part is probably the Sheriff, who is an absolute sick fuck and brilliant in the role.
Now I really want to go see Facing New York and they are playing in Orangevale tonight (like seriously so close, I would not even have to get on the freeway) and they are playing with another band I like. Unfortunately everyone is supposedly coming over to play D&D tonight so I am sort of already booked. I am really tempted to flake on everyone though and possibly see if
hella_em would want to go.
Additionally, I have been embroidering all weekend because
sophia_helix made me go into Michaels and the urge hit me. I love how it makes me feel like I am in a Jane Austen novel.
sainfoin_fields may possibly be getting the most awesome present of all time... just saying.
