In fear of TMI-ing: I can get a rash from shaving my legs, waxing the legs results in a lot of pain when the hair grows back, ditto on other techniques that consist in pulling the hair mechanically... and am allergic to shaving creams -___-'

I don't even try to do anything to the bikini line, because that would be a catastrophe...

It was sort of a TMI poll in the first place.

The reason I was asking is partly that I've given up on doing anything above the knee to mine because I spend more time being itchy and bumpy than hairless and smooth. But it makes swimming awkward and a lot of lingerie not sexy.

I shave half the time and do Veet(hair removal cream) the other. I like the Veet better but it is not very cost effective. I've always been kind of too nervous to try waxing because OWW!

I always have dreams about having the money to have my leg hair permanently removed.

I do almost the same - only a bit above knee, because otherwise it results in something hardly attractive and very much unpleasant...

I'll have to try Veet again, because maybe I'm not allergic anymore? ::is hopeful::

Veet is definitely my favorite and it really does double the time of smoothness. It's just so damned expensive.

I don't de-hair...the whole area...just around the edges so it doesn't stick out of anything I try to wear. I hate the little bumps though.

Yeah. I never really found the whole "get rid of it all" idea to be very appealing. But I hate looking at lingerie and thinking "wow that's cute but I'd have to de-hair to wear it and then spend a week or two with red little itchy bumps". I have fantasies of electrolysis.

*nods* I associate completely hairless bits with prepubescence and so it's not my thing. Plus I'm far too amused that it's...well, TMI here, but my girly hair is naturally red, and for whatever reason that amuses the hell out of me. (my head hair is more of a dark reddish blonde)

I think that is totally a valid reason.

Also yay for TMI posts.

Okay...not much space in the text-box of the poll so I'm going to embarrass myself completely in your comments. *facepalms*

I don't shave, nair, wax, pluck bikini area...but there are certain times of the month that I can...erm...rip the hair out manually without there being much of any pain and no adverse reactions like rashes or bumps. For some reason it practically just slides out with just a little tug. I don't pay enough attention to be able to tell you at what point in my cycle this occurs, but I suspect it's around ovulation. I've occasionally ripped it ALL out, but since I hate the way it catches on fabrics when it grows back in I tend to leave a sort of "landing strip" patch.

Oh God, I can't believe I left this comment.

Thanks for leaving the comment even though it's sort of an uncomfortable topic.

Also, that's totally interesting.

No, I really do find it fascinating. Seriously.

Possibly that makes me the weirdo

Hee! Well, that makes me feel a little better. The last person I discussed this with had more of a "geez, and I thought I had kinks" attitude...which totally isn't accurate. It's not kinkery; it's Grooming! An unusual grooming tactic, yes, but still..grooming!

Honestly, if I could do that without agonizing pain I would.

I pretty much shave the edges so nothing is visibly sticking out (which would be highly embarrassing). Although I do get those razor bumps afterwards which isn't fun or attractive, but I've recently been using this anti-chaffing powder-gel that helps immensely, along with lotions directing after shaving.

Though I guess it depends on how sensitive your skin is around that area.

Oooh tell me more about this anti-chaffing powder gel...

It's something my mother gave to me when I was complaining after a particular day of shaving, and the gel is specifically for the thigh/bikini area after shaving. It's rather effective.

You can buy it at Soothing Care (http://www.monistat.com/soothingcare/products_chafing_gel.htm).

Okay, so in the interest of giving WAYYY too much information, I've just got to say that once I did indeed shave the entire area, and was immediately depressed and couldn't stop crying. It was horrible, and I didn't feel better 'till it came back.
These days my mantra is to keep the b-line trim and neat, and strictly with a razor.
Also, Nair never worked, and waxing is damn painful. And expensive!

Veet works because of the scraping tool. Actually one time my sister used the Veet tool with Nair and said that was pretty effective. But it's still kind of expensive.

If I know I'm going to be wearing a bathing suit (which rarely happens), then I'll shave. The rest of the time I just trim the hell out of the entire area -- shorter just feels more hygienic somehow.

I rarely end up in a bathing suit these days, sometimes I wonder if part of the reason is anticipating the pain of preparing for that.

I used to shave, but switched to waxing. Shaving gave me serious red bumps at first, but I discovered that if I kept shaving every day, the bumps stopped coming.

I got tired of shaving, though, and started waxing everything off. Which I liked a lot more than I thought I would. But then I started having irritation during sex, and figured I'd see if only waxing almost everything fixed that. So I did that... we'll see what I stick with, but I do like the waxing. The first time hurt a bit, but was manageable. Since it's gotten less and less painful.

I seriously cannot shave every day, I would end up a horrible bumpy mess.

Waxing has always sort of intrigued but also terrified me.

Shaving one or two days made me a horrible bumpy mess. Continuing to do it every day for a week or so makes the bumps go away, as long as I keep doing it frequently.

Though I do prefer the waxing. Less irritation, less work in the shower, and lasts longer.

suddenly i feel very lucky that i have relatively little body hair (i can go for months without shaving my sporraticaly, blonde-haired legs) and that i've not really ever had an issue with razor burn, bumps, etc.

i think the gnome method is the best! that little guy gets in there and poof, controlled corn rowed hair for a month!
