My boyfriend works for one of the major bookstore chains. Currently he is in a Supervisor position, which basically entails a lot of responsibility and work but no authority and crappy pay. Literally some of the regular booksellers make less than a dollar an hour less than him. A few weeks ago, the store he works in's General Manager got enticed to move to a store than does about twice the business but is seriously in need to help because the last person in the position basically didn't do anything. The company gave him a $10,000 dollar raise to do it. In the following week a couple people mentioned to Jeremy that he should apply for the Inventory Manager position at that store. The only catch is that he is currently carless since his last one died and the store in question is a good 45 minutes away. So I, being the supportive girlfriend that I am, suggested that he could take my car. The promotion would mean about twice as much money for him, he'd go to salaried as opposed to hourly, and it would mean he could transfer at a higher level when we move next fall. Basically it was a good move for us and if I had to bus and bike for a few months till the extra money was enough to get started on a working car, that was a worthwhile sacrifice. So he called Marc the GM and set up an interview... which ended up going over two hours long and was followed up by a practical visit to the store to discuss problem solving. Marc had told him during the initial interview that it was between him and other Supervisor from our store, who is kind of the local asshole, and by the end was leaning towards Jeremy. Still we've been waiting since Friday for word and I think Jeremy was getting a little nervous.
However, this morning Marc finally called and there are some formalities to go through but HE PICKED JEREMY!

Voice Post Meme
Nov. 19th, 2007 02:45 pmVoice posts are fun, right? You get to hear funny accents if your friends are from far, far away. All we really want is to hear your voice, we don't care what you're saying. So here's a list of typical meme questions that would otherwise be boring, but when communicated aloud - well, it's entertaining. Answer these questions in your post, and encourage others with voice-posting abilities to do the same.
1) What's your name?
2) How old are you?
3) Where are you from? Are you living there right now?
4) Is it cold where you are?
5) What's the time?
6) What are you wearing?
7) What was the last thing you listened to?
8) What was the last thing you ate?
9) What was the last thing you watched on tv?
10) What's your favorite tv show? Why?
11) Quick! Find a book, or something with text on it! Flip to a random page and read some of it! GO!
12) What was the last movie you saw? How was it?
13) Do YOU think you have an accent? Talk about that.
