Too Sleepy for a Real Entry. Therefore poll:

[Poll #1108213]

I would have voted Farscape, but Spaced is shorter.

Also, my latest rec is Slings and Arrows.

Indeed. I am actually thinking of watching the shorter things first (comedies, HBO and British Series etc) before diving into anything long. Also I am going to start getting confused with my sci-fi show replacement words for fuck (frag, frak, frell...) Of course Spaced depends on finding time to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] sophia_helix and [livejournal.com profile] actoplasm since it's region 2 only.

If you really liked S1, the second season of Ugly Betty is every bit as awesome, if not awesome-er. So that's why that got my vote.

Also, you know how much I adore Addison and was looking forward to PrP, but IMHO, it is complete shit.

I did like Ugly Betty a lot. I just could live without so it got chopped in the name of free time and getting stuff accomplished.

Do you watch SGA? I love Big Love, but I haven't seen season 2

Also . . . Entourage?

From: [identity profile] lodessa.livejournal.com
I do not watch SG1 or SGA.

I really liked season 1 of Big Love too, since I don't get HBO I tend to wait for dvds though.

I actually have seasons 1 & 2 of Entourage sitting in my living room (they are the boyfriends).

As far as Lannisters, for me it's actually a tie between Tywin and Jaime, but I figure Jaime is going to get his share of votes without me, so I'm going with the patriarch :)

I think what we see of the Old Gods religion in present-day Westeros seems less crazy that the others, but I suspect that in their heyday that religion contained plenty of crazy, too. (I'm actually a bit surprised that there doesn't seem to be a 'radical' Old Gods person the way there is for R'hllor and the High Sparrow. Or perhaps there is one, and Bran will meet him/her/them at some point.

I have no TV things to recommend... the only thing I watch these days is House MD, and I figure if you had any interest in watching that you would have been doing so already, since Bones is the lead-in, so, no suggestions...

I was trying to decide between Jaime and Tyrion and had similar logic. I find Tywin fascinating but not exactly a favorite.

Indeed. What we've seen of the Old Gods religion seems mostly just to be general spirituality with a sort of nature loving bent. Which is a lot less crazy that the other things we've seen but yes I am sure there were/are crazies there too.

Yeah, with House I find my dislike for the title character is sort of turn off for the show to me.

I like that of the 15 TV options, 7 of them are owned by me and one more (Torchwood) will probably be downloaded at our house.

Indeed, T-Rex. I am sort of excited by the prospect of so many things that are short and awesome.

Also we need to make New Year's plans.

Rome it is!

By a landslide even. Which I suppose is a good thing since M and I had discussed watching that next.

Big Love S2 is nowhere near as fun as S1.

From: [identity profile] hobviously.livejournal.com
But I also stopped watching Rome S2 after like four episodes because I hated every single person. So HBO dramas really fell flat for me this year (though I did watch BL all the way through).

P.S. ANYWAY, you should watch HIMYM and Dexter, because they are awesome, as the entire world can agree upon!

Date: 2007-12-19 04:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lodessa.livejournal.com
HIMYM seems awesome but I am unsure about my focus with comedies which tends to have issues like me forgetting I am watching them.

I have also heard Dexter is awesome. Sort of fear though. Also the rumblings from this season seem less positive?

In conclusion, I will consider both.

Date: 2007-12-19 04:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lodessa.livejournal.com
Well I'm going to watch both anyway but hearing of the lackluster impression makes them seem less of a priority.

(Of course guy, you do have a history of falling out of love with like every show ever)

Date: 2007-12-19 08:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hobviously.livejournal.com
Well, I was never in love with Rome. And obviously the only reason I fell out with love with Veronica Mars and Grey's Anatomy and BSG is because of ME and not because they dropped in quality. I'm such an iconoclast!

Dexter is 100% awesome and my favourite show of all time. Season 1 is an A+ and season 2 is an A.

Sorry, I'm a little cranky right now. But my point totally stands.

I'm not saying that you don't have reason for falling out of love with shows and I didn't mean to offend you.

Weeds is also fantastic.

Oh, man, Lannisters! Awesome. I said Cersei because I am contrary and like watching people fall apart, but oh! Um, more needs to be said.

1) Cersei. Because no one else will, and because the portrait of her losing it in AFFC is AWESOME. Love the crazy.
2) Jaime! Oh, the torment and the agony.
3) Kevan. Because he's the one who gets things done without the glory or honor or golden shits. There always seemed something fundamentally decent and capable about him.
4) Tyrion. Not to say he is not awesome. But everyone knows he is. Though I fear he'll be somewhat depressingly resigned for awhile.
5) Tywin. I actually like him a lot, not as a person, but because I think he is an exceptionally well-written character. And in some ways, he reminds me of the strength I'd like to have. I love the way the world falls apart without him. There's one shattering when Robert goes, and without Tywin, what's left of calm and peace is gone. Effective and scary.
812) Lancel. He's, like, more pathetic than the Lannister cousin who ends up a bowl of stew.

And honestly, I always thought the Old Gods were pretty un-nuts as religions went. There wasn't the expectation that they'd necessarily grant prayers. There wasn't the glitz and corruption of the Seven or the brutality of the Dorthraki (though there is something poetic about their religion and the image of the rider across the stars). There certainly aren't the rotten promises of the Lord of Light. There's not much at all, which makes it kind of sane.

If really really cold.

Pretty much agreed on the Lannisters. I have been thinking about changing my vote to Kevan because he seems the most sane of all of them.

Also agreed on the Old Gods. It basically just seems like general spirituality.

Kevan is my third-favorite Lannister. He seems like a really nice guy, and to really love his family, while still seeing them for the people they really are, one gets the feeling, and to, yeah, basically be sane, without the scary varied issues the rest of them have... I wonder how he managed it? (I actually like Genna too, and she seems like a fairly decent person also. I wonder if having Tywin for a brother freed up the other Lannister siblings to be generally good people, since there was clearly no point in trying to compete with Tywin in the "ruthless bastard" event...)

Date: 2007-12-19 05:37 pm (UTC)

That is totally an interesting idea. Oh Tywin... the man whose pride caused a revolution!

Given the choice of Torchwood versus anything I would say Torchwood. But I am curious about Black Books

Also I second the votes for Dexter and How I Met Your Mother

I guess they will have to go on the next poll.

Well I am likely to watch both in the next few months. I've already seem half of Black Books, which is rather short and I'm definitely interested in finding out what Torchwood is all about. Plus neither is a huge time commitment *hearts british shows*

I love British TV (and it's a wee bit addicting ^__^) So much fun. How was Black Books? What you saw of it that is.

Black Books is brilliant. Especially if you have ever worked retail.
